For Intermediates and Experienced surfers.
If you're a competant surfer Fuerteventura will deliver the goods! From October to April big atlantic, open ocean swells hit the North shore of Fuerteventura and provide consistant, powerful surf.
1. Playa de Esquinzo. Drive south of Cotillo Just before you cross the riverbed take the small trail down to the shore. The beach is surrounded by high cliffs powerful waves break over a sandy bottom.
2. Cotillo., The beach "Playa de Castillo" is south of the village it's a 1km long beachbreak. Especially good for beginners. If the wave are not closeing out the break has powerfull and fast left and righthanders.
3. Hiero/yarro: 2 excellent Reefbreaks about 1 km west from Majanicho. Heirro is a long Right and Yarro is a powerfull lefthander. Both Breaks are good on a small swell.
4. The Bubble: A good Pointbreak on a flat Reef 100m to the right of Yarro. It's not very long but it;s a fast and very powerfull wave with good tubes watchout for the shallow reef.
5. Majanicho: Is a group of little houses at the end of the trail from Lajares to the north shore. It;s a Pointbreak with long rides when the swell is big.
6. Mechihonas: A reefbreak with very constant Waves, surfable on all tides. If you can't find good waves here, you won't find them anywhere on the north shore. good Spot on a small and big swell.
7. Shooting Gallery/Bristols only 100m along from Corralejo, infront of the distillation plant it breaks over a flat reef. The Spot is surfable on all tides, fast and hollow at low tide lots of locals.
8. Corralejo has depending on the wind direction and size of the swell 3 spots. The most constant wave is the Reefbreak at the harbor wall El Muelle in the north of the city. Rocky Point another reefbreak is located in the protected bay and needs a big north swell to break well. If you prefer a beachbreak Flag Beach and Glass Beach can have good waves on a big swell.
9. Los Lobos is a little vulcano Island 2 km from Corralejo. There is a public Boat there daily. It's one of the best spots in the canary Islands, A long righthander with rides in excess of 150 yards it's a 20min walk from the boatlanding stage.
10. Puerto del Rosario is the capital of Fuerteventura and has a reefbreak north of the lighthouse.
11. Morro del Jable and Jandia. Close to the lighthouse is a beachbreak which for this region has a good righthander on big days.

Other spots.
As to not upset the locals to much I have not listed all the possiblities above. There are some epic surf spots and empty peaks to be had, you'll just have to discover them yourself.
In terms of what to wear in the water, wintertime visitors will be comfortable in a light full suit or shorty, whilst summertime is boardshort weather.
See you in the water Russ.

Flag Beach is located just outside the village of Corralejo and 6km from Casa De Verano it's a 400m long bay protected by reefs at both ends, offering flat water on the inside. Flag Beach is probably the best all-round sailing spot in the north of the island with waves in the winter and flat water slalom and freestyle sailing in the summer months.
The windiest time in Fuerte is in the summer when a big high pressure sits over the Atlantic and a low over the Sahara. These combine to give reliable cross-shore winds. The swells which bring the best waves are caused by depressions in the Atlantic which are more prevalent in Winter. The NE trade winds blow throughout the year, although they tend to move up & down the Atlantic. In summer, which is the windy period, the trades can start to blow as early as March and as late as May. Contrary to popular belief the trade winds are not strong winds; only about 3 Bft. on the open sea. However around Fuerteventura there is acceleration zones where the wind is either funnelled between mountains, or islands and where the wind can sometimes increase to as much as 8 - 9 Bft. These trades are normally onshore or cross-on.
